I like that the dinner was held at the Rijksmuseum, gives everything a more regal feeling.
I only like these outfits, all the other people were dressed more sober or old-fashioned. Nothing unexpected since it’s a state dinner!

A royal picture

So today, 30-04-2013, is the Abdication of Queen Beatrix and the installment of King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima!

With a royal inauguration belongs a royal state photograph of course.

royal picture

To be honest, I think this photograph looks a bit awful!
I like the purple dress but it just seems so simple! But maybe that’s the message they’re going for? An austere, sober image? Makes sense given the recent economic climate.
Okay, I can deal with that. But what about Willem-Alexander? Couldn’t they have given him a more dashing outfit? Maybe a coloured waistcoat or at least a coloured bow-tie. And they should have made him smile more! Now he just looks awkward and normal….

For shame! Here’s to hoping there will be nicer pictures today!

Taipei: Hundred mushroom garden

Imagine: a crowded metropolitan high way, blinking lights and fast cars. Imagine walking into an alley and finding a weird looking restaurant. You go inside the restaurant and see it’s empty. You look at the menu and see: MUSHROOMS. In this restaurant there is almost only mushroom for serving. Mushroom crisps, chips, soup, hotpot, fondue, everything mushroom.

I’m talking about Hundred mushroom garden at   MUSHROOM PARK 17, Lane 71, Ren Ai Rd., Section 4 Mrt zhongshan jr highschool, Taipei,Taiwan.
If you’ll ever go to Taipei you MUST visit this restaurant. I mean, a restaurant based on mushrooms? How often will you come across something similar?
From what I can remember prices range from 300 to 600 Taiwan Dollar. Not that expensive.

You start your meal with mushroom crisps, then you get mini buns which you have to dip in condensed milk, then you’ll get several cold raw mushroom which you can eat natural or with a little bit of sauce on it.

Meanwhile, while you’re eating your fantastic konyaku and tofu, your only Taiwanese and Asian grown mushrooms will be boiling in a hotpot made out of Taiwanese herbs. Enjoy trying out all the different mushrooms and different herbs!

Lady winter

The national museum ( Rijksmuseum) in Amsterdam will finally open it’s doors again after being under construction for several years.
I’ve been looking at several pretty paintings featuring women and fashion of the past. Below is a painting by Caesar Boëtius van Everdingen, made around +- 1644  to +- 1648
opnamedatum 2008-06-12voorkeursbeeld

This lady is trying to warm her hands during a cold winter evening. The lady herself is a representation of winter. Quite optimistic, usually the representations made of winter consist of old people.
I like this lady’s headdress. She’s pretty well off since I can see pearls around her neck. I always thought rich people in those times would have a fireplace to keep warm at or something. Somehow this seems more like what a poor person would use to keep warm.

Yearning for spring..

The weather here has been awful the last couple of months and there just doesn’t seem to be an end to it. Luckily since last week it seems to have gotten a little less cold and sometimes there’s even sun!
I found this spring edition from the Korean Vogue Girl 2011, it is so colorful it really cheers one up!
The clothes the girls are wearing is called hanbok, they are traditional Korean clothes, slighty modernised here of course ;)
Vogue Korea often features hanbok in their issues, I love it! Wish my country did something similar with their folk clothes instead of just hanging them in museums…

Spinns

Spinns is a fashion brand from Japan in Harajuku. They sell exclusive brands made by Japanese fashion designers. Most of their fashion is remade. Fashionable and ecological!
Their staff shoot a couple of streetsnaps every week and I think some of them look really nice!
Here some looks I just love so much:
spinnsstreetsnap I like this color composition and blouse + jeans effect. And her hair looks nice too!

spinnsstreetsnap2 Nice lace skirt but not transparent at the hips! I think this look is very sophisticated but not boring at all.

spinnsstreetsnap3 Love the lace cuffs and chest decoration. Not sure if I really love the bag or think it’s so so. But her belt makes up for it!

spinnsstreetsnap4 Badass chique! Lovely hair as well.

spinnsstreetsnap5 Simple but nice!
